Most dangerous back-to-school apps
Another new school year, another new slew of apps that teachers and parents need to monitor and most likely delete. The district attorney’s office in Blount County, Alabama posted a warning video about “Calculator%,” which at first glance looks like a calculator app but with a secret password turns into a private photo stash. The Google Play Store, which offers apps for Android devices, has a likeminded app called "Smart Hide Calculator." Other social media apps that “oldies” might not know that allow “anonymous” communications but aren’t include Whisper and ask.fm. Of course any app can be used for good or bad, but it’s important to try and stay abreast of the new tech and techniques, although I’m still trying to decipher my kids emoji codes! —Kevin Hogan, Content Director, Tech & Learning Magazine
