AT&T Women in Tech Hackathon - New York

 

If so, we want to see you in action. AT&T and Girls Who Code are opening our doors for you to innovate. We’re looking for creative thinkers like you to join us at this special social good focused Women in Tech Hackathon for Girls Who Code students, alumnae and the New York tech community. All skill levels are welcome! We need a wide variety skills and perspectives to create positive change.

At AT&T, we have adopted a progressive approach to innovation – one that embraces openness and encourages collaboration between entrepreneurs and professionals of all genders and backgrounds. We believe that young women provide a critical spark to the tech industry that can accelerate innovation and economic growth.

This hackathon will provide you with opportunities to design and build innovative websites for non-profit charity organizations. You will be working with a team which is a great way to meet other community members who are passionate about technology too.

AT&T careers experts will be on hand throughout the day to talk about awesome job openings in different areas of our businesses.

Hang out with us at the Center for Social Innovation as we hack and build websites, eat snacks, compete for prizes and most importantly: meet new people who share your love of technology. We will have experts from AT&T and the local community onsite to assist with your development.

You Bring...

Your laptop, skills & ideas. Come with a collaborative, team-focused mindset and/or team-up in advance on Twitter/Facebook/Google+ with #atthack. Whether you are a developer, designer, project manager, or just interested in tech, you are invited to attend this event. Every group needs a good balance of talent and your skills are needed!

We Supply...

Quick presentations and code samples that help kick start your hacking, food to keep you going, and caffeine to keep you awake. We will have technical mentors to assist you in building faster, smarter, and with new tools. We will also have loaner hardware on-site for you to use in your solutions. 

Event Schedule

The following is a list of the weekend's agenda:  

Day 1

  • 10AM - Doors open for registration and check-in
  • 11AM - Event kickoff and featured speakers
  • 12PM - Pitch ideas and form teams
  • 12:30PM - Lunch served
  • 6PM - Dinner served
  • 7PM - Day 1 finishes for Girls Who Code participants
  • 7PM - 8PM - Parent pickup for Girls Who Code participants
  • 12AM - Facility closes

Day 2

  • 10AM - The fun continues with breakfast served in the morning! Work with the teams from Day 1 to complete your website. Mentors will be available throughout the entire day to help you code your solution. Team registrations will be accepted throughout the day with a deadline of 12PM.
  • 12PM - Deadline for team registration, keep coding!
  • 12:30PM - Lunch is served
  • 2PM - CODE FREEZE for Girls Who Code participants. Pitches start promptly at 2PM and are limited to three (3) minutes per team. PowerPoint presentations are NOT recommended!
  • 4PM - CODE FREEZE for Adult teams. GWC winners announce. Adult pitches start as close to 4pm as possible.

Prizes

The following prizes are experiential and geared towards accelerating and expanding your network and industry knowledge:

  • Best Overall Social Good Website/Mobile App from a Girls Who Code Team
    • 1st place: $1000 in gift cards for the team
    • 2nd place: $500 in gift cards for the team
  • Best Designed Website/Mobile App from a Girls Who Code Team 
    • 1st place: $250 in gift cards for the team
    • 2nd place: $100 in gift cards for the team
  • Best Pitch from a Girls Who Code Team
    • 1st place: $250 in gift cards for the team
    • 2nd place: $100 in gift cards for the team
  • Audience Choice Award for a Girls Who Code Team 
    • 1st place: $250 in gift cards for the team
  • Best Social Good Website/Mobile App Overall from a Women-Led Team
    • 1st place: $500 in gift cards for the team
    • 2nd place: $250 in gift cards for the team
    • 3rd place: $100 in gift cards for the team
  • Best Social Good Website/Mobile App Overall from an All Women Team
    • 1st place: $500 in gift cards for the team
    • 2nd place: $250 in gift cards for the team
    • 3rd place: $100 in gift cards for the team

Judging Criteria

Apps will be judged based on the criteria below and weighted accordingly.

  • 33% Weight - Ability to clearly articulate what your app does
  • 33% Weight - Originality of idea
  • 33% Weight - Technically creative and/or challenging implementation
