I Remember the "Old" New Dorp High

Year 1975
Memoir I remember the old New Dorp High. The one down the block from where Nathans, Masters, and Grants used to be. I'm sure the store names have changed and I know the school has moved over to south New Dorp Lane(We were supposed to move into the new school in the fall of '74 for my senior year, but, at the time, New York City was on the brink of bankruptcy and construction of the giant new school was put on hold)...still, after reading the on-line memoirs of students young enough to be mine, I was thrown back to the timeless same spirit.
I scrolled the faculty looking for familiar names and four turned up...I'm old, not ancient, but they must be.
Dick Dowling was my swim team coach. In '74 I was captain of the team, but it was in '72 the swim team, captained by Bob MacGregor, did something the New Dorp Swim Team had never done before or since...WE BEAT FARREL!!
Back then, we had to travel to Curtis every day for practice and meets because we had no pool, just like the 'new' school. I'm glad to see the girls varsity has a swim team, but why just the girls, and why so few members?
Ah, well,...I guess glory and memories are made on the fields of wherever we, or our imaginations, choose to make them.
