Memoir
I only have fond memories of my time at New Dorp (1965). Split sessions; freshman and sophomores leaving the building after dark during the winters and juniors and seniors eating lunch at breakfast time and having homeroom in the auditorium. Classmates you can never forget and some who still keep in touch. Teachers who knew your name even though you had never been in their classes, or teachers that still recognize you after almost 40 years. The principals; Ms. McGinnis with her monotone speech and Mr. Bellafiore who had a smile for everyone and knew their name. A General Organization, G.O., with Mr. Robert Morris as teacher advisor. Campaigns for student government offices that filled the halls with posters and auditoriums with music, speeches, and cheers. The elections where the candidates were all friends, win or lose. Two gyms, a boys' and a girls'. The Prom was held in in the boys' gym. Baseball, basketball and football games where bleechers were filled with school spirit and teams were undefeated. The Turkey Day Games against Curtis.
Those were truly some of the best years.
