Blended Learning Institute (3 Day Institute)  

Description:  In this face-to-face institute, educators will learn best practices and methods for building blended learning environments.  Participants will learn effective strategies for managing and teaching students in blended classrooms and explore myriad ways blended learning can effectively support standards-based teaching and learning across disciplines and grade levels.  In addition, during the institute, participants will be immersed in using a variety of digital tools that support personalized learning as they plan and create a blended lesson to be implemented back in their own classrooms. Participants must bring a laptop to each session and headset with microphone for Day 2.  

Audience:  Middle and High School Teachers and Administrators  

Time: 8:30 - 3:00 pm   Three Full Days

We Learn Through Stories: Tools for Engaging Students with Digital Storytelling

Description: Digital storytelling is a craft that uses the tools of digital technology to tell stories. This full day session will cover a variety of ways students and teachers alike can tell their own story.  We will review free digital tools, copyright free resources, storyboarding sites, voiceover apps, video editing tips and publishing online. Create a digital story aligned to your curriculum standards as well as a potential model for students to replicate.

Tech Tools to Enhance Content Delivery and Student Engagement

Description: We have all heard… “I have the best digital tool for that.”  The problem is finding the time to devote to learning how to use that tool.  This workshop is geared towards exploring a number of digital tools that will assist in creating more engaging lessons as well as developing projects for your students.  

Audience: Teachers, Administrators

Free Digital Resources to Enhance Your Instruction

Description: Participants will explore open educational resources (OER) that can be utilized for teaching, learning, or research. Locate content like textbooks, course readings, for blended learning courses.

Tech Tools to Engage Your Parent Community

Description: Finding time to communicate with parents can be a challenge with all to do during the day. This workshop will explore different tools to engage parents and support communication around parent interaction and participation.

Audience: Teachers, Administrators, Parent Coordinators

Turning It Up with Flipped Classroom

Description: Explore characteristics that define this educational trend and dispel common myths. Examine educator stories on how they are rethinking class time to promote accessible instruction for all students. Attend this hands-on session to learn how to leverage emerging tools to support student-directed, personalized learning and develop strategies to capitalize on your time with students. Participants will also learn how to use free tools to deliver flipped instruction. You will hear from a master teacher as he shares his planning process and classroom instruction model. Then, you will design your blended classroom model that stresses collaborative group work to improve retention, discussion and higher-order thinking. Participants will come away from the session with a firm understanding of how to use interactive resources and media to encourage student-centered learning, communication and collaboration.

Tech Tools to Engage Your ENL Students

Description: Finding tools to engage your ENL students is like finding a needle in haystack. This workshop will explore some new tools to support and differentiate instruction for ENL students. Bring your laptop to workshop.

Using iPads to promote the 4C’s:  Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Creativity

Description: Are you already using iPads in your classes? New to iPads but eager to discover ways to integrate them into your teaching?  In this hands-on workshop participants will explore and evaluate productivity tools, educational activities and more, using built-in and freely available applications for Apple's iPad. With the iPad, learners can collaborate, interact with experts, perform research and produce creative works! We will examine strategies for using this mobile device to transform learning.  Participants must bring their own iPads.

Web Literacy - Becoming Search Literate

Description:  We live in the age of information overload which can be overwhelming at times.  Therefore, it is imperative to teach students and in many instances, ourselves, how to assess information for accuracy and validity. In this workshop, learn how to “read” a web address, identify the author, see the history of the page as well as learning how to verify external links.  All of these things will help you and your students become more web literate!

Deeper Dive with Google Drive Intermediate Level

Description: There are many benefits of using Google Drive for Education that spans far beyond apps that are created by Google. The Chrome Store is a repository for apps that have been created and function seamlessly with Google’s apps. Participants will explore extensions and add-ons for productivity and classroom integration.  Participants must be familiar with Google Apps (Docs, Forms, Sheets)

Audience: Teachers and Administrators - This workshop is NOT for beginners.
